Bearings might be called a "staple commodity of industry" since they are basic and indispensable. In 1916 NSK shipped the
first Japanese-made ball bearings and demonstrated the potential of Japanese industry. Since then, responding to the development
of industries and the evolution of machinery, NSK continued to develop improved bearings. As the size of machines was scaled up,
bearings were also made bigger, and as the role of machines became divided into more specific and specialized applications, smaller
bearings were developed too. At the same time, their friction was reduced and endurance was improved. The technology acquired by NSK
became recognized worldwide and bearings with the NSK trademark became highly regarded everywhere for their reliability. As the times
have changed, so have machines and the people who use them. With the explosive growth in the number and sophistication of computers,
machines are beginning to have some of the capabilities of humans. At the same time, people are becoming more dependent on machines,
not only in business but even for recreation. This is why NSK adopted the slogan "Motion and Control Technology" which represents
the integration of precise mechanical movement and rational guidance.
At present, NSK is the largest bearing manufacturer in Japan and the second largest in the world.
